Kedarkantha, at a height of 3200 Metres (10,500 Feet) is considered to be an easy beginner trek. Kedarkantha trek starts from Sankri Village., where you can witness the beguiling beauties of Himalayas and feast the eyes with snow-covered pathways. The route is arched with the alpine thickets and the wide array of fauna and fauna are a plus to its beauty. For those of you who are looking for some thrilling and adventure trek then Kedarkantha trek is perfectly made for you. Decorated with a beguiling magnificence of falling snow and bordered with pine trees, The Kedarkantha Peak is a standout amongst the most looked for after snow trekking destinations in India. Perched at a height of 3810 meters which is about 12,000 feet this is a perfect trekking trail which covers a consolidate distance of 20 km. The overall Kedarkantha trek distance is around 20 km, from start to finish. The trek begins from a village by the name of Sankri located at a height of 6,500 ft. From Sankri, trekkers have to climb 6,00 ft uphill and cover a distance of 10 km within 2 days, to reach the highest point of the peak.

 

The feeling on top of a summit is indescribable. There is a sense of achievement, the feeling you have earned this view. The kind of internal confidence you gain after an adventurous summit climb is difficult to shake.

DAY 01: Dehradun to Sankri Village (Optional)

In morning we will reach Dehradun, Have a Tea Break Here after that Drive to Kotgaon, The drive Dehradun to Kotgaon is long and perhaps one of the most beautiful drives in the Garhwal Himalayas. Reach Kotgaon (6,800 ft); 10-11 hours. Will Stay 1st night at Kotgaon/Sankri, have dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 02: Kotgaon/Sankri to Juda-ka-Talab

After breakfast, you will set out on the trek from Saur Village and start climbing up Along the way, we will cross several high-altitude suspension bridges and small villages, Trek Distance around 4 kms and duration is 3 – 4 hours. Reach the lake called Juda Ka Talab, where Lord Shiva had opened a small lock of his hair and water dripped from his hair forming this huge lake.. Step out of your first camps of kedarkantha trek and witness the starlit sky bedside the frozen lake. Overnight stay at Juda Ka Talab.

DAY 03: Juda-ka-Talab to Kedarkantha Trek Base

After breakfast, trek towards Kedarkantha base which lies at an altitude of 11, 250 feet. The distance from Jadu Ka Talab to this destination is about 4kms and in a moderate speed it takes about 2.5 hours to reach the place. After reaching the base, set up the tent in a preferred selected place which is open and one can enjoy a clear view of the night sky. Overnight stay at camps.

DAY 04: Kedarkantha base to Kedarkantha peak; descend to Juda-Ka-Talab

After breakfast, today we will hike an elevation from 11,250 feet to 12,500 feet. The schedule of the day includes hiking to Kedarkantha peak and then again descending back till Juda-ka-Talab. The total journey comprises of 6kms altogether and takes about 7 hours of time at a moderate speed. On reaching the campsites set the tent and mark the end of another delightful day with dinner and overnight stay at camps.

DAY 05: Juda-Ka-Talab to Sankri

After Breakfast, Trek back from Juda-Ka-Talab to Sankri. pack the backpack to descend furthermore through a more clearly marked well paved pathway, laden with small stones. Meandering through rich dense pine forests one can view the sight of streams flowing by in a slow and steady way. today we will stay at sankri.

DAY 06: Drive to Dehradun and return back to Delhi

After Breakfast, drive Sankri village to Dehradun and after that will back to home Delhi. You’ll be driven back to Delhi and will reach by late night. Your trip ends here. Keep in Touch with Vagabond…..

How to reach Dehradun by air: Jolly Grant Airport serves Dehradun domestically, with regular flights coming in from major metro cities in India, Like.. Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh, etc.

How to reach Dehradun by train: The nearest railway station is the Dehradun junction, which is well connected to major cities from all over India. You’ll easily reach Dehradun by train.

How to reach Dehradun by road: As Dehradun is capital city of Uttarakhand, so is well connected through road network. You can either drive to Dehradun or hire a cab/taxi to reach Dehradun from Delhi NCR or any other nearby cities. Regular private or govt. bus services also prevail to and for Dehradun through an excellent roadways network.

Things to carry for Kedarkantha trek

 

1) Woolen clothes like sweaters, thermals, pairs of gloves, caps, mufflers, socks:
Note: Heavy and complete three to five clothing layers are minimal during Winters as the weather might get unpredictable. Light woolen is enough for summer trips.

2) 02 Windproof jackets

3) 02 Pair of Hiking shoes, Snow boots, sandals or slippers

4) Walking stick or a trekking pole (if you have)

5) Must carry accessories like sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen lotions, lip balm, headlamp, torch with extra batteries.

6) Toiletries: Sanitizer, tissues, liquid soaps, paste and toothbrush

7) Medicines: Your important medicines and diamox for altitude sickness, essential medicines for headache, stomach upset, and regular medication if you are taking any, band-aids, volini spray, and anything else.

8) Your Phone chargers or power bank

9) Raincoat, extra shirts/t-shirts, and trekking pants
Note: During Monsoons, please do not forget to carry a raincoat, an umbrella, and an extra pair of clothes.

10) Govt. Identity card and photocopies.

11) Water Bottle or insulated water bottle

12) Woollen fleece jackets

13) Few poly bags to keep any wet clothes.

14) Energy bars, biscuits, chocolates, dry fruits to munch, and ORS or Glucose to not drain energy.

15) Camera with extra memory cards, batteries, chargers.
